One of the most prominent questions asked by those who are
considering online education is if traditional employers would accept their
degree.  The online education explosion
has sent millions of Americans flocking to the new age curriculum. The question
is much easier to ask then it is to answer. 
Although online education and online degrees have been around for a
while now the concept is still a work in progress.  More and more well known accredited schools
are beginning to offer online education and online degree programs. 

This is obviously a good sign that online educational
opportunities are headed in the right direction.  The value of your online degrees however will
depend on quite a few considerations.  It
will depend upon the attitude of the company you are applying too.  The type of industry will have to be
considered as well.  Of course the type
of degree will be vital as will the educational facility that is issuing the
degree.  Beyond that it comes down to the
person doing the hiring and their own opinion in reference to online degrees.

Many employers find themselves in a skeptical position.  Due to the advent of many “degree mills” on
the Internet they are justified to be so. 
These distorted programs have given online education a bad name.  Basically if you can pay the fee and spell
your name you can get a degree with these misdirected educational misfits.  However, if you can obtain your online
degrees from an accredited traditional and well known university than the value
of your degree will be higher.  Even some
of the online schools are building a reputation like the University of Phoenix
for example.  The popularity and
acceptability of online education is growing everyday and it is becoming as
commonplace and as valuable as a traditional degree.

At the present time it seems that the type of online degrees
you pursue carry a lot of weight in concern to its potential value.  Knowledge based majors seem to be more
accepted than others.  Majors in
accounting and information technology are high on the list.  The industry that you are attempting to work
in plays a major role in the value of your degree.  Obviously if you are going to be working on
the Internet than and degree geared towards Internet/New Media or Computer
Technology is going to be valuable. 
However if you are studying to be a Doctor or Lawyer your online degrees
may be frowned upon.  In the end it
really does come down to the individual doing the hiring.  Many employers are more concerned with hands
on experience.  On the other hand there
are employers who desire employees with high academic skills. 

The promising news is that research has determined that
nearly 75% of employers quizzed believe that online degrees received from
credible established universities are more valuable than just an unknown online
educational facility.  Employers are even
beginning to warm up rather well to established schools that only offer online
education.  More and more employers are
offering incentives to their employees to attend online education programs in
order to increase their value to the company. 
A recent survey of employers showed an even more promising
response.  Over 85% of those surveyed
said they would hire an employee who had earned an online degree. 

Although the pursuit of online education and online degrees
still leaves a few pondering its credibility it is obvious that the future for
these programs are bright.  The online
programs are becoming more aggressive and pushing students to reach expectations
earlier thought impossible online. 
Society in general is always skeptical of anything new and
unproven.  Those involved in online
education and the granting of online degrees are on the proven path to
success.  Never before in history has the
opportunity to learn and further ones educational boundaries been so
accessible.
